B.S. 2007

What They Have To Say

My name is Keith Cavey, and I graduated from OU in 2007 with a B.S. in Meteorology. It didn't take long for me to find a job following graduation. In less than a month, I was working as a weekend meteorologist for KWTX-TV, the CBS affiliate in Waco, Texas. There, I was responsible for creating and presenting a weather forecast each weekend, and assisted with other weather coverage throughout the week. After living in the Heart of Texas for more than two years, I accepted a position with Weather Central, a leader in providing weather graphics solutions to broadcast and media outlets worldwide. My current job sees me traveling around the country, training fellow meteorologists how to use their Weather Central software.

OU's School of Meteorology enjoys a well-known and well-deserved reputation as one of the country's premiere institutions for the study and research of our atmosphere. Indeed, the SoM provided me with a solid background of the science of meteorology. But for me, the OU experience went far beyond classroom education. Extra-curricular activities like the Oklahoma Weather Lab, a student-run forecast service, and OU Nightly, OU's student newscast, gave me a chance to hone my skills and gain practical experience before entering the workforce. That experience, combined with my OU education, has helped to set me apart in today's competitive job market.
