Satellite Meteorologist/Programmer - Weather Decision Technologies, Inc.
WDT is seeking to hire a Satellite Meteorologist/Programmer to work in the commercial weather industry on innovative and cutting-edge technologies. Weather Decision Technologies, Inc. (WDT) is a growing Norman-based weather company focused on providing world class severe/hazardous weather detection and prediction tools and numerical modeling solutions to our global clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage, maintain, and enhance WDT’s satellite data ingest and processing systems.
• Research and/or develop and implement satellite-based algorithms for automated cloud detection/analysis, hydrology applications, and nowcasting capabilities
• Work with WDT’s numerical weather prediction team to assist in improving the use of satellite data in the data assimilation process
• Serve as the focal point within WDT for all technical issues related to end-to-end satellite data processing, applications, and products
REQUIREMENTS:
• Experienced in the use of satellite data, including calibration, geo-location, and derived products
• Programming experience in C, C++, Fortran, Perl, and Python in a Linux environment.
• Knowledge of current operational and satellite systems and concepts.
• Expertise with the McIDAS software package.
• Strong software engineering skills with an ability to work with a wide variety of data formats.
• Must be a “self-starter” with a desire to innovate within a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple groups of people.
• Desire to work in a team environment.
DESIRED:
• Experience in programming with the McIDAS C and Fortran API
• Knowledge of typical meteorological data formats such as NetCDF, GRIB, etc.
• Web programming capabilities a plus.
