NWP Scientific Programmer - Weather Decision Technologies, Inc.

WDT is seeking to hire a Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Scientific Programmer to work in the commercial weather industry on innovative and cutting-edge technologies. Weather Decision Technologies, Inc. (WDT) is a growing Norman-based weather company focused on providing world class severe/hazardous weather detection and prediction tools and numerical modeling solutions to our global clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain automated scripts for managing NWP processes and related data feeds.
• Develop web-based graphical and statistical tools for evaluating forecast performance.
• Work with NWP staff to develop probabilistic forecasting capabilities.
• Provide general software engineering support for data assimilation and post-processing.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Proficient in C++ and/or Fortran.
• Proficient in Python and/or Perl in a Linux environment.
• Experience with basic web programming techniques.
• Experience with a relational database such as MySQL.
• Basic understanding of the application of NWP to operational forecasting.
• Familiarity with gridded meteorological data formats such as GRIB and netCDF.
• Strong software engineering skills with an ability to work with a wide variety of data formats.
• Must be a “self-starter” with a desire to innovate within a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple groups of people.
• Desire to work in a team environment.
DESIRED:
• Experience with meteorological or other visualization systems such as GEMPAK, NCL, or MATLIB.
• Knowledge of statistical methods.
• Experience with map projections.
