Database Administrator - Weather Decision Technologies, Inc.
WDT is seeking to hire a professional Database Administrator to work in the commercial weather industry on innovative and cutting-edge technologies. Weather Decision Technologies, Inc. (WDT) is a growing Norman-based weather company focused on providing world class, decision support tools and products to a wide range of consumers and weather sensitive industries around the globe.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead and participate in developing and deploying innovative technologies and systems that add to WDT’s existing unique suite of weather data processing/detection/prediction technologies.
• Design large database infrastructure for a large variety of projects.
• Serve as a consultant for software engineers developing code involving database access.
• Maintain and optimize operational database infrastructure.
• Lead and participate in the enhancement and deployment of weather display capabilities for International and Domestic clients.
• Work with other system developers and engineers to troubleshoot fielded systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 2-4 years experience as professional DBA
• Expert knowledge in Open Source databases (MySQL, PostGres, etc..)
• Expert knowledge in relational database design and implementation with emphasis on HA and HP
• Expert knowledge of SQL query language and query design
• Strong software engineering background
• Experience developing software on Unix platforms (specifically Linux).
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple groups of people.
• Persistence in troubleshooting and commitment to team deadlines and goals.
• Desire to work in a team environment.
• Committed to high quality customer service.
DESIRED:
• Experience with geo-relational databases
• Degree in Computer Science or MIS.
• Programming experience in C++, Python, Php, Perl and other scripting languages.
• Linux System Administration and basic Network Administration
