Student Outreach Assistant - Oklahoma Mesonet - University of Oklahoma
Position: The Oklahoma Mesonet at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for the position of a Student Outreach Assistant. This position is a part-time, 12-month appointment.
Salary: $8.50 to $10.00/hr, up to 20 hours per week; salary commensurate with skills and experience.
Beginning Date: The appointment will begin in December 2009 through the school year with additional hours available during the summer. Interviews begin in November. Hours at work can be scheduled around semester classes.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will assist the Outreach Group with:
• Preparation of educational materials
• Logistical and scheduling support of various outreach workshops
• Provide customer support (technical, software and general support)
• Maintenance of websites
• Maintenance of OK-FIRST databases and documentation
• Coordination with OCS’s Technology Group regarding OK-FIRST data sources
• Other outreach duties as assigned
To perform these tasks, the Student Outreach Assistant will have the opportunity to work with various software and programs. There is a strong possibility for teaching experience within the OCS Outreach programs.
Requirements: Applicants should have completed, in good standing, freshman classes in meteorology or atmospheric physics. Preference will be given to students with at least 2-years of school left to complete. Exceptional students from other disciplines will be considered. Applicants should be motivated and have the ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. The position requires well-developed human relations and communication skills, including written and oral. Applicants should be willing to develop skill in problem solving, customer service, and writing HTML code.
