OU Wireless Changes
From OUIT:
"The network team has officially updated the ANY SSID to OUGuest. This is only an SSID change at this point. OUGuest does not and will not require authentication. Beginning Wednesday, security will begin limiting OUGuest access to certain OU applications (for security and to help drive OU traffic through OUWifi) and blocking peer-to-peer traffic.
If you have any devices configured to automatically connect to ANY, you'll want to update those soon.
As most of you know, we rolled out OUWifi during the fall semester. OUWifi requires 4+4 authentication/registration and is intended to become the primary wireless network for OU students, faculty, and staff. Besides peer to peer applications, there are no access limitations set on this network.
We are going to communicate these changes this week through e-mail, outage notifications, and other means. Once students begin to return, we'll send a mass e-mail and pass the information on to the student newspaper. "
From mjl:
Many users noticed late last year the OUWIFI wireless network. OUWIFI will require that you register the MAC address (Machine Access Control address) of your wireless device. Authorization requires a valid OU 4x4 user id and password. It is my understanding that you will only need to register a wireless device once in an academic year.
If you have not registered your wireless device, the first time you connect to the wireless network, you will need to open a web browser where you will automatically be directed to the OUIT registration page. You can at that time register the current machine and any other devices at that time provided you know the MAC of the device.
If there are any problems, please contact me and let me know.

OU VPN Changes
This
is not for the NWC VPN Aventail!!
From OUIT:
"OU IT Security posted a new VPN client (32-bit and 64-bit) on the OU IT Store site midway through last semester. The old client will continue to work until the security team takes it offline January 17 during our regularly scheduled 3rd Sunday maintenance.
Usage on the old VPN is light, and we'll continue to monitor it as faculty and staff make it back to campus. We will send a mass e-mail in the next few days alerting all faculty and staff about these changes, as well as the changes to the wireless network. However, I urge you all to pass this on to anyone who utilizes VPN often or for critical work functions.
Security has provided some additional information below.
New VPN Client
OU IT has upgraded our current VPN hardware in an effort to provide increased speed and improved reliability for our customers. The new VPN client is available on the IT Store in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
What does this mean to you?
If you have not yet downloaded the new VPN client, please visit http://itstore.ou.edu to do so as soon as possible. You will need to uninstall your old VPN client before you can install the new one."
