NWC Phone Outage This Evening
02/11/09 15:02
This evening
starting at 8PM local, the IP phones at the NWC will
be reset a few times as OUIT works on updating the
Phone Firewall. Here is their message:
We have sign-off from the Operational units, plus a few more for today.
We will schedule this for 8pm this evening. Ops units, please pass along
this info to those on-shift at that time. Thanks!
Gary Skaggs
I need a 30 minute window to work on the firewalls for the IP phones. Would
like to do it after 5pm this week Monday or Tuesday. Phones may reset a
couple of times during the work but should not be down except to reboot.

VoIP phone work 3rd Sunday maintenance
10/09/09 14:20
All,
Note the description of work scheduled to be done during 3rd Sunday maintenance this month. The work described below will begin at 8 am on September 20th.
Thanks,
Gary
Description:
We are performing a routine software upgrade to the Nortel VoIP firewalls. We have two cluster pairs, one active, one hot standby. The standby pair has been upgraded and passed all tests thus far except of course in passing live traffic load. Our procedure will be to switchover to the standby pair while we upgrade the primary pair. Then switch back to the primary pair. If all goes well the phone users should see no loss of service with exception of active calls going quiet during the switch (about 10 seconds). If the upgrade fails to function properly for some reason we can easily revert to the previous version. The whole operation should take no more than 30 minutes.

Conflicker Strikes
03/04/09 13:25
From the NWC
Network Operations Center (NOC):
Yes, yes indeed. We have Conficker.
All of the wireless touchpanels in the building which use XP (wired apparently OK, wireless, not so much) have been infected. AV guys will be down this afternoon to work on them.
Note that this is pretty much all over campus as well, not just here. If you have users who are wireless that complain about connectivity issues, check them for Conficker first rather than wait for the IT Security MAC lock-out alert – they are kind of busy right now.
Gary
Note the connectivity problems that may be occurring with wireless. If you are needing to check your machine. refer to the OU IT help page: OUIT information link

VPN (Aventail) update
19/03/09 12:02
From the NWN NOC:
The VPN will be out of service tomorrow, March 20, from approximately 1300 to approximately 1500 hours.
At this time, the system will be updated to the latest production firmware.
There is now a 64-bit Windows client available. It is a Beta ... sorry, a "preview release", but it is supported. My lone beta tester has reported good preliminary results under Windows 7 (running in a VM on a Macbook).
I'll make that available after we are certain that the upgrade goes smoothly.
