Post-Doc Research Associate @ The University of Albany - The University at Albany is seeking a postdoctoral research associate with interests in performing NOAA-funded research on extended-range temperature and precipitation forecasting over the CONUS. The research will be directed toward improving temperature and precipitation forecasts on the 8-10 day time range at the NCEP Weather Prediction Center (WPC) in collaboration with selected WPC personnel. The research to be performed has the promise of providing operational forecasters in NOAA with a “first alert" to the possibility of the occurrence of extreme temperature and precipitation events during week two on the basis of current conditions and model forecasts. * Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a related discipline, conferred within the last five years, from a college or university accredited by the U.S Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization, have experience using numerical weather prediction models to perform synoptic-dynamic investigations and applying the resulting knowledge to operational forecasting practice. Candidates also should have the ability to work independently, and be willing to travel occasionally to NCEP and collaborate with WPC personnel. * Preferred Qualifications: Ideal candidates would have real-time weather forecasting experience, along with the ability to work with operational global numerical weather prediction models and ensemble forecast systems. Terms of appointment are for one year, renewable for one additional year subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
