Sensitivity of the modeled urban heat island to rooftop parameters

To date, much of the current understanding of the impacts of urban areas on atmospheric processes results from a number of field programs. Between the dates of 28 June to 31 July 2003, a vast array of instrument systems collected high-resolution observations of meteorological variables in and around Oklahoma City. For this study, the single-layer urban canopy model in the High-Resolution Land Data Assimilation System (HRLDAS) and Advanced Research Weather Research and Forecasting (ARW) modeling systems are used to investigate the sensitivity of the urban heat island and energy fluxes to urban canopy parameters. The model results are compared with observations collected by the Oklahoma Mesonet and Joint Urban 2003 collaborators.

This area is on the north central side of the Lloyd Noble Center. Elsewhere at the LNC, permits are required. The University of Oklahoma is a smoke-free / tobacco-free campus.
